Hardware: Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X Review

@ECMAG_Dave March 17, 2017 11

Recently I’ve found myself in need of a decent hotas flight stick in efforts to further enhance my already stellar Elite Dangerous experience that I’ve already been having with my Oculus rift alone.  A quick hop on the old 610 down to Microcenter and I’ve scooped myself up one for a very reasonable price, about $32 or so with tax.  Getting it set up was a snap, plugged it in and windows knew right away what I was trying to do, Elite also was on board with minimal configuration and as such I was off.

The first few hours I was on the fence but after tweaking the spring adjustment and getting the stick and throttle positioned just right I found that I was seeing a marked improvement in overall flight and especially combat.  At first I was a bit concerned about the build quality but both the stick and throttle have held up amazingly well to the rigors of my fairly intense use (as well as some impromptu stress testing done by my 3 year old)

The button placement on the stick is a bit odd with a little secondary trigger type button beside and above the trigger which is awkward to reach for me at least but doesn’t really impact my experience too badly.  Overall the stick is very solid and does the job better than I would expect for the price range.  Sure it’s not a $400+ stick but for the entry level pilot just getting their feet wet it’s an amazing upgrade and worth it’s weight in gold.

    Thanks for this review. $32 is right up my ally for starters. Is there any other good place to get it for around $32 besides microcenter?

      Looks like it’s currently on sale at Microcenter thus the excellent price I found, normally it appears to retail for about $49, which is still a bargain for a decent entry level stick.

    Thanks for the heads up! Been looking for one. Though I think the price is more than my budget. Cheers!

    What does this product do exactly? I know it says THUST MASTER but of what? That information is solely lacking. In fact, I thought of it as a game console if not for the writing on the wall.

    Looks pretty intense. The buttons look like they may be cumbersome if you have a larger finger. Im thinking the price is pretty nice though.

    This console would come with the instructions on the package right? Coz I’m not really good at setting up things like this. Reasonable price at $32!

    Price is just awesome! How’s the weight? The plastic sturdy enough? Does it have those rubbery grippy thingies? A torture-test would make another amazing review on stuff like this!

    Wow! $32 seems like a great deal indeed. I want one. Is it available on Amazon?

    It sounds good that it is easy to set it up and configure, even with such a good price! It’s good to know it’s been tested by your young kid too, so we know how reliable it is. :D

    Thank you for sharing this!
