Day of Infamy came out of left field and has just blown away my expectations of what a beta release should look and feel like.  Polished isn’t a word I like to throw around, especially for a product that is still very much in beta and does have some flaws but hands down this is the finest beta I’ve taken part in in the last 10 or years of PC gaming.  Those of you who are long time gamers will probably fondly remember elements of many of the maps that we see in the beta from the original masterpiece “Day of Defeat” which is of course the inspiration for many of the core gameplay components we see in Day of Infamy.  The maps themselves are lovingly detailed and about as pretty as you can expect from a fps with the suitably shiny textures applied to most surfaces certainly giving a refreshing facelift to old maps from yesteryear and providing a suitable backdrop for the period appropriate action.  Solid audio is already in place as well, with satisfying reports for all the firearms we’ve handled so far and screaming stuka dive bombers sending allies running for cover.

The gameplay itself is fast and brutal, less arcade-y then Day of Defeat certainly but I wouldn’t expect anything less from the stellar minds behind  Insurgency.  While this makes the learning curve a bit harsh for those coming from titles such as Call of Duty the satisfaction one takes from a perfectly timed and executed assault rush, with coordination between officers, radiomen(who are calling in strategic air support for the team) and support units providing cover is unmatched and that kind of strategic teamwork is what this game is really all about at the end of the day.

Additionally a rather intense co-op mode is also offered allowing a team with limited lives to take on an endless supply of enemy ai in efforts to complete objectives and revive their downed teammates in the process which is a rather refreshing change of pace from the lightning fast twitch pvp offered in versus mode.  The ai itself isn’t too bad either with many co-op games swiftly ended due to poor planning and poor execution which makes the co-op a viable option for those times you’re not feeling like pvp action.  Finally on to the weapons themselves, arguably one the the more important facets of a good fps and let me tell you the weapons we have here for the various armies do not fail to deliver in this case.  Each side in the fight is suitably matched with a good choice of roles and weapons available and you do have the ability to customize loadouts as well for each class giving you a bit of choice as to what you bring with you into the fight and further specializing your role.

All in all Day of Infamy is hands down the best ww2 shooter on the market right now and in it’s current beta form feels much more polished and complete than many retail products we see on the shelves these days.  We’re really digging what we’ve seen so far and based on what’s already being delivered I have high hopes for the full release.  Pick of Day of Infamy on Steam for $19.99

4.5 stars on beta stage? That seems promising. I can’t wait for further reviews, and probably some videos on this before checking it out myself!

Day of Infamy’s got everything I like in a video game: action, adrenaline, and history. I love WW2 shooter games so I will go check this one out in the future.

Not really into shooter games, but I was blown away by how realistic it is. There’s a lot going on here and I think this will be an epic game!

The visuals are so good. It reminded me of FF7 Advent Children movie. That is how realistic it is.

High rating for a game in the beta stage itself shows how well the game has furnished the graphics and other contents to make it interesting and useful. Upon reading your article it makes me want to give it a try. Thanks for sharing.

Epic graphics. It gives an element of thrill. This really looks like a game if you want to be in Call of Duty types. I am familiar with this game though I haven’t tried it. It is the favorite game of the young adults in my country. The more blood the more interesting for them.

The graphic looks good. Only that it seems that the soldier face lack some expression. But oh well this is FPS so this would not matter so much

$19.99 eh? Not bad. But, as I always did, gotta try it out first. I’ve been burned several times by purchasing games without trying them out first!
